Seven News, MasterChef, Big Bang win on Monday.

Ratings: In a night of TV stunts, Nine comes out on top.

A lengthy Australian Ninja Warrior, finishing at around 9:15 may not have won its slot, but it helped Nine to claim victory on Monday.

MasterChef Australia won with 918,000 ahead of Australian Ninja Warrior on 888,000 and House Rules on 829,000. TEN also topped the demos. Once MasterChef finished at around 8:45, Nine remained in front for another half hour.

That helped Big Bang Theory won with 764,000 ahead of Have You Been Paying Attention? on 744,000 and Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back on just 403,000. Strictly speaking Four Corners on 562,000 was not in the same timeslot.

Due to TEN stunt roadblocking Pointless across three channels, separate figures are not available, while network share overall was on par with last week.  ABC’s Q&A appeared to be down slightly without its standard politicking, at 372,000.

Seven News, ACA and The Chase again won early slots.

Nine network won Monday with 28.8% then Seven 26.8%, TEN 20.9%, ABC 16.9% and SBS 6.6%.

Nine News (1.00m / 986,000) led for Nine then Australian Ninja Warrior (888,000), A Current Affair (828,000), The Big Bang Theory (764,000 / 434,000), Hot Seat (528,000 / 309,000). Footy Classified was 126,000 in 3 cities. 100% Footy was 64,000 in 2.

Seven News was #1 for Seven with 1.11m / 1.06m then House Rules (829,000), Home and Away (727,000), The Chase (722,000 / 445,000) and Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back (403,000). Modern Family drew 216,000 / 109,000.

MasterChef Australia won for TEN with 918,000 then Have You Been Paying Attention? (744,000) and The Project (549,000 / 361,000). TEN Eyewitness News drew 485,000 and The Graham Norton Show was 299,000.

ABC News (767,000), Four Corners (562,000), 7:30 (559,000), Back Roads (539,000), Media Watch (516,000), Q&A (372,000) and Think Tank (244,000) comprised ABC’s night.

On SBS it was Inside (282,000), Great British Railway Journeys (148,000), SBS World News (139,000) and Live Football: Perth Glory v Chelsea (117,000).

9GO!’s Big Bang Theory topped multichannels with 205,000.

  1. Odd that WIN (Illawarra) was flogging Graham Norton, Man With a Plan (but no time given), and MasterChef all through Bold & Beautiful and TEN News, but did not see or hear one mention of Pointless.

      1. WIN frequently promote One and 11 shows on their main channel. If I see another Bergerac promo today I’ll scream. They promoted Family Feud quite often, even though that was also on 11 (News being on their main channel).

  2. Regarding the pointless simulcast – do we know if the networks get separate figures for each of the channels for simulcasts as based on my understanding ratings are measure by the audio track of each channel so how can they tell which channel is being watched? Correct me if I am wrong.

If they don’t how is the exercise measurable as surely the simulcast does nothing more than annoy the 100k or so usually watching ELEVEN and ONE not having regular programming, forcing them to go elsewhere. Sure a few may stick around, but most would not – my wife who leaves on ELEVEN until 6.30 weeknights is one of them!

    1. It depends on how Ten codes them for Oztam, usually as one. The simulcast stops Eleven and One taking audience away from Pointless (and conserves the episode fees for those shows) and increases the chances that Eleven and One viewers will watch some Pointless. What Ten loses is the viewers who watched what was on Eleven or One but watch something else on another network instead.

      1. What Ten loses is the majority of viewers who would have watched regular programming on ONE or ELEVEN.

It is hard to tell with half an hour, but recall when Ten simulcast I’m a Celeb on 3 channels a few years ago, shares for ONE and ELEVEN dropped massively due to the 0% share while the simulcast run. The drop was often more than 2% combined. In the meantime shares for TEN (main channel) did not increase at all compared to when the show was not simulcast – therefore the net loss to Ten network share was the 2% lower share with One and ELEVEN not having their normal content on.

In my opinion a 1 minute road block ad at 5.59 saying Pointless – starts on Ten now would have the same net result without sacrificing shares and viewers on the other channels.

  3. David, did they release any figures for the last minute late repeat of Pointless or does it show as man with a plan. My EPG couldn’t keep up with the changes and showed a 25 min pointless encore, then project encore, but Man with a plan aired in between.

    1. They did what? As late as 4:30pm yesterday Man with a Plan was still in the schedule. Hard to keep up. Man with a Plan rated 120k so that will be adjusted as Pointless rpt. It also has a repeat this arvo.

      1. I notice they aren’t airing the next-day encore at 8:00am (where Family Feud was). Instead the Neighbours encore has been bumped from 2.30pm to 8.00am.

      2. Pointless replayed last night straight after Graham Norton around 10.40pm, Man With a Plan followed then The Project but yes, the EPG (via Foxtel) was out of whack with Graham showing as 44 minutes, then Pointless than Man with a Plan 15 minutes. I forgot to record Pointless at 6pm, so recorded the “encore”, added +20 knowing things didn’t look right and got it in ok.

      3. The EPG didn’t even change in Tasmania. Just slotted Pointless in again, then went on with the existing schedule. I assume they canned a home shopping to rectify it.

        1. Tenplay went to test patterns as Pointless replay started.
So I turned on TV and then switched off at first ad-break.
Will check it out again a few episodes down the track, was a sluggish start I thought.
Started late anyway as I guess Masterchef ran over time.

  4. Have to admit I watched the Big Bang Theory last night for the first time in a long while due to it being the wedding of Sheldon and Amy, may even use it as the series finale for me, seems a good place to end it (given I haven’t watched in awhile anyway).
