Seven wins despite Origin week

Ratings: Seven snatches a week from Nine as House Rules hits season high.

Seven has snatched a ratings week from Nine despite an audience of 2.1m for State of Origin.

Seven saw House Rules reach a season high against stiff competition, only to go higher the night after, while Nine’s primetime schedule is under-performing without a stripped reality show (that will all change next week).

TEN’s MasterChef continues to drive good business along while FIFA World Cup draws viewers to SBS once more.

  1. House Rules improvement might be due to the elimination last week of a very unwatchable couple of contestants. Just nice-ish couples left now.

  2. Oh you’re super David, appreciated!

And I guess Seven got Melbourne only because of 3 nights of AFL later in the week (Ten won Melbourne in main channel on Monday, averaged over 300k from 7:30pm to nearly 10pm!)

By the way, are you positive about Seven winning demographics, Mumbrella said Nine did (although they use data excluding ABC/SBS), I’m surprised seeing State of Origin drives demographics sky high.

      1. I think Nine came out (in a round about sort of way) and basically said just that Monday a week ago, media articles were scathing.

But NRL seem to not be having a bar of it, chairman saying they strongly want afternoon if prime time Sunday hasn’t worked that well. AFL Grand Final is the best example there is, 2pm – 2:30pm start, all during day time and in 2016 got over 3m. What network wouldn’t look to that. There’s no doubt prime time adds something, but major live sport viewers will flock

        1. Quite a different kettle of fish – the AFL GF has always been in the afternoon – it would take awhile to build that tradition, and there is much talk about increasing ratings by making it prime time.

          1. Seven want to, AFL seem undecided (probably taking into account what I said above)
