TEN reviving Sports Tonight brand

TEN sports show may be back as a weekly affair.

Yesterday it was reported that TEN is reviving its Sports Tonight brand.

The series ran from 1993 to 2011 with hosts including Brad McEwan, Tim Webster, Bill Woods and Matt White.

The Herald Sun suggests the returning edition may be a weekly rather than nightly proposition. And while Matt White is rumoured to return, Steve Quartermain is another contender.

“Quarters” has taken holidays, following Jennifer Keyte’s appointment, to consider his next move.

  1. When I read this article I was and still am so excited. ST should have never been axed. It was one of those stupid decisions that David Mott was forced to make part of the slash and burn of the Lachlan Murdoch era at TEN. I wont be surprised if Matt White made this decision, same goes with RPM although RPM is different in format to what it was when Bill Woods hosted it. I would air ST on Weeknights late after Late News or if cost is an issue then 2 times on Weekends on TEN or on ONE in either a replay or first run.

    1. Commercially that’s true but there is the ABC and ABC News 24 that airs constant News. I agree with you in general TEN Late News bulletin then the Sports Tonight Bulletin. those two would rate better for sure.

  2. Sports Tonight should never have been retired nor should have the Late News with Sandra Sully. What should have occurred is it should have been given a regular 10pm starting time.

  3. The biggest issue I had was the various different starting times. It needs to be at a regular timeslot to work not 10 o’clock today and 11.15pm tomorrow. We want it to be like the news i.e. same time daily if that’s in fact what they intend.

  4. Was it more popular/rated higher when it was a stand alone program? Or when it was combined in Late News?

Even during 2007-2011, Fridays and weekends as well as ONE HD editions were still stand alone.

    1. I think it was always a stand alone program after Late News. later it aired also in a stand alone bulletin but after weekend news. IMO it should air on ONE either in first Run or replay because there is nothing good on ONE at the moment. A sports bulletin would be better.

  5. Great news. I agree – they should never have retired it.
A shame that it is rumoured to only be a weekly show than a nightly show like it once was, but at least its better than nothing.
