Skill Up with AFTRS. Get the Job.
We’ve all been there. You’ve done your time and paid your dues. It’s time to move up to that next level position in the TV or screen industry, but in the back of your mind, there’s a niggling doubt. Will my experience carry me through in those first days in a more senior position? In the frantic day-to-day of building your on-set experience, there is just not the time to get the hands-on experience in the role you are hoping to graduate to.

New AFTRS Industry Certificates
With this in mind, The Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) has developed a new set of Industry Certificates aimed at helping you progress your career. Every course offers a blend of practical skills and industry knowledge mapped to the roles and skills requirements that the screen and broadcast industries are looking for.

Courses are run either online or over evenings and weekends so you can continue to work while you study. A lot of the learning is hands-on and will give you outcomes that you can apply straight away.

There are courses aimed at moving you from your current industry role to the next step up, but there are also entry-level courses aimed at helping you get a start if you are new to the screen and broadcast industries.

Taught by screen and broadcast professionals.
One of the most valuable aspects of these courses is that they are taught by professionals who are recognised for their screen and broadcast experience. Production Manager, Genevieve Ginty who leads the Production Management course is known for her work on Friday Night Games, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and for her work across observational documentary. Luciano Marigo-Spitaleri who teaches Resolve Colour Grading worked on David Attenborough’s Life on Earth. A full list of course teachers is on the AFTRS website.

All courses are additionally advised by specially created Industry Panels. Leaders such as Head of Production, Head of Content, Co-Head of Drama etc have come together to help ensure that training is aligned with employment opportunities and is globally relevant.

Advance your Career
Industry Certificates starting in September include Production Management (TV Unscripted), Colour Grading, and Digital Producer. Later this year there’s TV Editing Assistant and Camera Assisting. Payment plans are available to help you spread course costs.
