Airdate: Transfer

2017 French drama series gets a broadcast on SBS from next week.

2017 French drama series Transfer, which has been available at SBS On Demand, gets a broadcast from next week.

The 6 part drama with English subtitles screened at Series Mania in Melbourne last year.

It launches with a double episode.

In a near future, scientists discover a way to keep a person alive by transferring their mind into someone else’s body. A procedure once used for medical purposes, transfers are soon outlawed after a series of incidents called ‘shell shocks’ – a post-transfer glitch causing intense paranoia and mental instability. The transfers have turned into killers and have become a menace to society. A new task force, BAIT, is given full powers to arrest and detain transfers in camps, and wipe out the underground trafficking of bodies used for the illegal transfers that are plaguing society.

Series One, Episode One:
After five years in a coma, Florian Bassot wakes up in the body of a man called Sylvain Bernard. With no understanding of how or why he’s been ‘transferred’, he discovers with horror that he must either face arrest for being a transfer, or hide the truth. Either way, he has no chance of reuniting with his wife and children. He assumes the identity of Sylvain, who’s a detective with BAIT, the Brigade Against Illegal Transfers. His first mission is to arrest Novak, an unstable ‘shell shock’ victim who is determined to see him dead.

Episode Two:
Liza, a 12-year old transfer who’s just killed her parents, knows who Florian really is. She introduces herself to him, and gets to know his children. Florian (as Sylvain) discovers the Omega Center, a prison where potentially dangerous transfers are locked up. He and his colleagues Béatrice and Gabriel are charged with finding Bao, a former disabled athlete who had transferred into an able body at a time when it was still legal. Frightened by rumours about the use of humans as guinea pigs for science, Bao has fled. Florian finds himself in an uncomfortable position as he discovers Sylvain was having an affair with Béatrice.

Monday, 20 August at 11.30pm on SBS.
