Axed: Shooter

Unfriendly fire for Ryan Phillippe drama.

US drama Shooter starring Ryan Phillippe has been given the bullet by USA Network but Paramount Television is hoping to shop the series to other networks.

The series follows the journey of Bob Lee Swagger (Phillippe), a highly decorated veteran who is coaxed back into action to prevent a plot to kill the President, but soon discovers he must clear his name.

Deadline describes the series as a breakout hit despite lukewarm reviews, but notes the current third season is averaging 1.5 million total viewers in Live+3.

The series, which airs in Australia on Neflix, is currently screening its third season.

  1. I was under the assumption that due to Ryan Phillippe’s accident the show is still finishing off Season 2. In my opinion Shooter is running out of a plausible plot to extend it into another season, the writers could re-invent Bob Lee-Swagger as another Lethal Weapon but with Condor and Jack Ryan on our screens perhaps even Netflix might think enough is enough, but who knows Netflix do like surprises.
