NITV is calling for submissions for the seventh season of short-documentary initiative, Our Stories.
The initiative aims to share the history, culture and language of Indigenous Australia through stories of elders, youth and communities.
Emerging filmmaker, Kimberley Benjamin is the recipient of the 2018 Spirit Award. A proud Yawuru, Bardi, Kija woman from Broome, she receives a work placement with NITV and an Our Stories commission.
“I’m so excited to be selected as the recipient of NITV’s Spirit Award for 2018, and look forward to working closely with the NITV team on some ideas I have brewing during my placement,” she said.
NITV Channel Manager, Tanya Orman said: “Storytelling is the core of our channel and we look forward to commissioning another collection of Our Stories in 2019. It’s so important for NITV to be able to provide emerging filmmakers from remote, rural and regional Australia the platform to tell their stories on screen.
“We can’t wait to see what stories we uncover from the submissions this year.”
The deadline for submissions is 30 September 2018 with winners being announced early November.
