Margot Kidder death ruled as suicide

Coroner sadly rules actress death in May as suicide.

Actress Margot Kidder’s death has sadly been ruled as a suicide.

Coroner Richard Wood confirmed that Kidder died “as a result of a self-inflicted drug and alcohol overdose.”

Her daughter, Maggie McGuane, said “It’s a big relief that the truth is out there.

“It’s important to be open and honest so there’s not a cloud of shame in dealing with this.”

She continued, “It’s a very unique sort of grief and pain. Knowing how many families in this state go through this, I wish that I could reach out to each one of them.”

Kidder, 69, was found by a friend in her Montana home on May 13th.

She had long been open about drug and alcohol addictions, which she said partially triggered her very public breakdown in 1996, and her bipolar diagnosis.

Kidder is best remembered for playing Lois Lane opposite Christopher Reeve in the Superman films.

  1. Margot was my favourite Lois lane apart from the original lady. Very sad to hear. I just don’t understand why some people do it. Its so sad to think that anyone feels there is no longer anything or anyone in life to live for.

  2. I’ve never understood the reporting of suicide. When they are Australian it is never reported as such but when it happens overseas it is mentioned. Seems like there is contradiction there.
