Netflix testing ads

Updated: Netflix is trialling recommendation promos running at the end of episodes.

This probably won’t go down well…

Netflix has confirmed it is testing promos running at the end of episodes.

A Netflix spokesperson told IGN, “At Netflix, we conduct hundreds of tests every year so we can better understand what helps members more easily find something great to watch.

“A couple of years ago, we introduced video previews to the TV experience, because we saw that it significantly cut the time members spend browsing and helped them find something they would enjoy watching even faster.

“In this particular case, we are testing whether surfacing recommendations between episodes helps members discover stories they will enjoy faster.”

The test is rolling out globally to a small number of subscribers.

Netflix has also deleted all user reviews “due to declining usage.”

Updated: Netflix advises promos can be skipped if a user is disinterested.

  1. Yeah, I’ve been waiting for this – actually external TVCs will be down the line, for sure. Am OK with both a small number/single ads, and promos for other shows – am just hoping that they don’t interupt the show, and don’t repeat the same clips over and over again.

  2. Which is it? Ads or Promos?

I believe it might be Netflix promos, and not commercials, which commercials usually refer to advertising products on the outside.

  3. David, do you mean paid commercial ads or promos?
Is there a setting that allows viewers to see end credits fullscreen without interuption? I have an interest in seeing credits fullscreen without interuption. I hope they don’t do a Foxtel and interupt programs with a promo and paid commercial sponsorship before end credits start. I do not care or want spoilers as to what is in the next episode of a series. This old fadhioned linear style interution of programming leaves me to source the same content elsewhere. If Netflix starts running paid ads, we will cancel.

    1. Yes there is a way to see the full credits, there should be a small window which shows the credits rolling at the top left hand corner click on that.

  4. As some Netflix users may be aware the choices shown when searching for content are recent releases and suggested viewing based on your current preferences, many hundreds more titles are hidden away and some time wasting research is necessary to discover them, it would be a better idea to have a dedicated viewing guide of all Netflix titles from the most recent additions to old classics, this app could be included in the pop out function bar recently introduced by Netflix.
