Nine News boss Darren Wick has backed Nine political editor Chris Uhlmann after his serve to conservative news outlets.
Yesterday a Nine tweet in which Uhlmann hit out at News Corp, 2GB and SKY News was deleted online, fuelling speculation the network was ducking for cover.
But Darren Wick, Nine’s Director of News & Current Affairs said in a statement to TV Tonight, “An error was made in deleting one tweet. I stand by Chris Uhlmann and his right to express an independent opinion. The tweet and video have since been reposted and will remain on our social and digital platforms to be ferociously debated, as they should be.”
Videos were not deleted from Facebook nor YouTube.
Daily Telegraph political editor Sharri Markson went head to head with Uhlmann on Today, denying newspapers were locked in a war with the Turnbull govt.
"That was straight, objective news reporting."

Nine will also end up as owners of 2GB if its Fairfax Media proceeds.
“It is silly to suggest that this is some sort of News Corp plot, when the people that have really been out there night and day calling for Malcolm Turnbull to go work for Fairfax Channel Nine group.” @samanthamaiden on #auspol #TheDrum pic.twitter.com/BtR04o7aNw

Nine news boss backs Chris Uhlmann…to borrow the famous reply from Mandy Rice-Davies,” Well he would, wouldn’t he”! ( For those who haven’t a clue who she was Google the name).
As usual a man gets free reign to talk down/over a woman, maybe Karl’s influence on this show is hurting it, Today has become a complete rabble and a mess
Even Georgie’s half hearted ‘go chris’ when he launched his tirade was lacking any sincerity. Also note that Chris Uhlmann is married to member of the Australian House of Representatives for the seat of Canberra representing the Australian Labor Party… so his opinion might not exact;y be free of interference
>”Also note that Chris Uhlmann is married to member of the Australian House of Representatives for the seat of Canberra representing the Australian Labor Party”
Also note that Chris Uhlmann also stood once as an ultra-conservative candidate in the ACT (_after_ he married), and Liberal supporters have been happy to adopt him as one of their own every time he’s attacked progressive politics.
It seems “Hell hath no fury like a Conservative slightly disagreed with…”
This is what happens when you have a weak Federal Communications minister.
Just as adverts now display actor’s portrayal the same should rules apply to our news presenters and their affiliations.
It should be made mandatory that Uhlmann is introduced as Political commentator and husband of a current ALP MP, Credlin as the former political Liberal advisor, Cassidy as the former Hawke’s ALP press secretary and so on.
I’ve given some leeway here but as a general reminder, comments around personal lives of presenters should really be avoided if it isn’t part of the content.
I found it funny that Turnbull asked Uhlmann to ask him a question at his final news conference, but Uhlmann wasn’t in the gallery…
Turnbull absolute toddler to the end. The Liberal party should terminate his party membership as soon as he leaves parliament for his Latham like attitude.
On a day where Shorten delivered a rather nice heartfelt message to the departing PM, Malcolm had to make a deliberate attempt to punish news outlets and reporters who challenged his poor leadership.
I am glad now that we now have two decent and worthy candidates at the next Federal election instead of this fully grown baby that makes Trump’s outbursts look pale in comparison.
