Nine to stage Farm Aid Telethon

Nine expands its helping hand for farmers with a telethon to air across its daytime schedule.

Nine will broadcast a full telethon on Monday August 20 to support farmers hit by the driest winter on record.

It follows a public response to the Drought Relief Appeal on the Today show which has raised over $1.9m.

Farm Aid Telethon will be a daytime event pre-empting all Nine content from 5.30am, with the exception of the 11.30am News, including special reports and live interviews from the land.

“It’s a dire situation. We need all Australians to rally together for our farmers who so desperately need our help. Our goal with this Telethon is to raise as much money as possible to assist them, their families and their communities,” Karl Stefanovic said.

Georgie Gardner said: “To see, firsthand what our farmers are experiencing is truly heartbreaking. So much has already been raised but more is needed. I urge all Aussies to dig deep and support the Telethon, with all money donated going directly to the Drought Relief Appeal.”

Viewers can continue to donate online via todayshow.com.au or by calling 1800 732 165 (Monday to Friday, 5.30am to 8.00pm AEST).

  1. I agree with the other comments that telethons should be held on weekends as many people are working weekdays. Also, telethons which are specific to a particular state or city should be broadcast nationwide, as people move interstate at times and still want to help out in the fundraising efforts. People may also have family and friends interstate and would still like to contribute to a cause.

  2. Telethons are traditionally on a Saturday aren’t they ? Whatever, if Nine didn’t jump then Seven would have. Hey, hey how about they both combine on a telethon across the two networks ? Seven stars join Nine stars etc etc… They’ve done it before haven’t they ?
