Returning: The Last Ship

The fifth and final season will set sail on Stan in September.

The fifth and final season of The Last Ship will set sail on Stan on September 10, same day as the US.

New episodes about the aftermath of a global catastrophe will then continue weekly.

News of a final season leaked on social media last September after two seasons were shot back to back, and confirmed by TNT in May.

The Last Ship stars Eric Dane (Gray’s Anatomy) alongside Aussie Bren Foster (Days of Our Lives, Home & Away), Bridget Regan (Jane the Virgin) and Adam Baldwin (Chuck). Also starring is Charles Parnell (Pariah), Travis Van Winkle (Heart of Dixie), Marissa Neitling (Leverage), Christina Elmore (Fruitvale Station), Jocko Sims (Masters of Sex), Kevin Michael Martin, Emerson Brooks (Captain America: Winter Soldier) and Jodie Turner Smith (Newness).

Season 5 of The Last Ship picks back up with the world recovering from the deadly virus that devastated the population, but global political unrest remains. Tom Chandler (Dane) has retired and his former crew has scattered, many having risen in the ranks within the Navy. Sasha Cooper (Regan), Lieutenant Danny Green (Van Winkle), SBS WO-N Wolf Taylor (Foster) and Sergeant Azima Kandie (Turner Smith) are on a covert mission in Panama. When they are wrongly blamed for an attack on the Panamanian president, the consequences for the United States are dire. The Nathan James must fight to prevent invasion by Latin America – and avert the next world war. Season five of The Last Ship is even more epic, upping the ante on action and excitement, but at its core, it underscores the costs of prolonged war and the toll it takes on the heroes who fight it.

  1. Unfortunately the budget and the star status of the shows first season was not able to be maintained from season 2 onward, the show lost a lot of it’s credibility as a consequence. Obviously the producers have negotiated a multi-season package deal to get the best out their investment as has happened with numerous other American shows in the past. I suspect that if The Last Ship was better managed creatively it could have spawned some spin-offs as has The Walking Dead which is a dead show walking but refuses to die.
