Seven outsources traffic to Manila

Scheduling of ads moves to Manila as Seven saves on staffing costs.

Seven network has confirmed it has outsourced its Traffic department to a company in Manila.

Traffic departments are responsible for booking and scheduling of advertising.

Sources suggest Seven’s Melbourne-based Traffic dept., which had national responsibilities, numbered around 50 staff.

A Seven spokesperson told TV Tonight, “Seven has outsourced some functions of commercial inventory to an external provider who operates in multiple locations including Manila.

“Seven has retained management and commercial inventory leaders in Melbourne and Sydney.”

In February Seven West Media and Nine Entertainment Co. entered into an exclusive arrangement to form a joint venture for broadcast playout operations from Frenchs Forest, NSW. Around 150 Seven staff in Melbourne were told that most of their jobs would will be outsourced by 2019.

Last week Seven Seven West Mediaposted a net profit of $135.8 million, including $61 million of cost savings, after a 7% cut in staff.

  1. Well Tas News from Win comes from NSW, what next I do not watch Win News anymore. What would Melbourne people have to say if their news came from Sydney or vice versa. Well didn’t the government of the day say it would create competition if they privatised Telstra…. we all know how that worked out.

    1. By not watching WIN News anymore it simply gives WIN an excuse to can their Tas. news due to low ratings. Crews are still working in Tasmania producing the content which is then assembled with a presenter in Wollongong reading the intros. Most Melbourne/Adelaide/Brisbane/Perth news comes from Sydney, from 5:30am to 4pm, and in TEN’s case across the weekend.

  2. No surprises here. I installed a “green screen” computerised traffic system for a Radio Station in the late 70’s. No Internet, no PC’s. The ratings were delivered via a dumb terminal and a dial-up modem.
Using the internet, the traffic system computer can be almost anywhere in the world.

  3. Any word on if presentation and its staff (who have made the presentation / graphics look and sound the way they do for the best part of 16 years now) will remain in Melbourne? Because that’s some serious new training / directions that will need to be given to the NSW based staff! Wonder how seamless or different it’ll all be by next year.

    1. No different to when the presentation staff in Brisbane, Adelaide, etc were chucked out and it all moved to Melbourne … mind you, there were some massive cock-ups in the early days of the centralised operation.

  4. Join the club this has been going on for years to save labour costs . Admin Job I was in wen to India years ago. Very sad but this in is the world we live in
