Aussie actor Matt Day, currently appearing as David Potter in ABC’s Rake opens up on his viewing habits.
What shows are on your must-see TV list lately?
I’ve just binged Fleabag written and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Ozark starring Jason Bateman. The writing on both is superb. Waller-Bridge holds nothing back and nobody plays ‘man in a hole’ like Jason Bateman. I’m also about two eps from the end of S6 of The Americans which I don’t want to end.
What’s your preferred genre to watch and which shows are current highlights?
Thriller, drama, comedy. I don’t have a preferred genre, as long as the writing / directing / acting is good. Loved Safe Harbour on SBS which ticked all those boxes.
Which guilty pleasure show are you reluctant to admit to watching?
I watch A LOT of Russian dash-cam footage on You-Tube. Does that count as a show?
What show you would secretly love to appear on?
Wayne Blair says he wants to cast me as a junkie with a shaved head (I don’t know why he wants to shave my head in particular, but I like the sound of it). So I’d like to appear in whatever show that’s going to be. Not so secretly, I played a bad guy on Wolf Creek S2 and it’s true, bad guys have more fun. More of that.
What are the essentials for a good binge session at your house?
Some kind of screen, obviously. I hate to admit it but I watch most things on my phone.
What can we look forward to in the final season of Rake?
A lot of disgraceful behaviour and actors having more fun than should be allowed.
Rake airs 8:30pm Sundays on ABC.
