Comedy upstages drama on Wednesday
Ratings: Amid the turmoil ABC still has a sense of humour. Nine wins Wednesday.

At least ABC still has a sense of humour…
Viewers turned to comedy over drama last night with Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell winning its timeslot at 674,000 viewers.
TEN’s new drama Playing for Keeps was second in its slot at 465,000, down on last week’s 583,000 but ahead of Bite Club on 435,000. Seven’s 9-1-1 was close behind on 425,000.
Earlier The Block‘s 928,000 eclipsed The Bachelor‘s 721,000, while Hard Quiz was next with 649,000. Seven had a staggered schedule in various cities due to AFL commitments. Motorbike Cops was 550,000, behind 7:30‘s 578,000. Great British Railway Journeys drew 269,000 for SBS.
Seven News, ACA and The Chase won as usual.
Nine network won Wednesday with 29.0% then Seven 26.4%, TEN 20.9%, ABC 17.1% and SBS 6.6%.
Nine News (934,000 / 885,000) was best for Nine then The Block (928,000), A Current Affair (799,000), Hot Seat (492,000 / 271,000), Bite Club (435,000) and Inside Crime (175,000).
Seven News was #1 for Seven with 991,000 / 969,000 followed by Home and Away (602,000 in various cities), Motorbike Cops (550,000), The Chase (545,000 / 341,000), 9-1-1 (425,000), Highway Patrol (394,000 in 3 cities), Talking Footy was 162,000 in 3 cities.
The Bachelor (721,000) led for TEN then The Project (468,000 / 246,000), Playing for Keeps (465,000), TEN Eyewitness News (345,000), Pointless (211,000). Movie: The Switch was 162,000.
ABC News (750,000), Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell (674,000), Hard Quiz (649,000), 7:30 (578,000) and Back in Very Small Business (296,000). Black Comedy was 161,000.
On SBS it was Great British Railway Journeys (269,000), Food Safari Water (153,000), SBS World News (143,000), Hidden Restaurants with Michel Roux Jr. (128,000) and The Chef’s Line (73,000). Bosch was 44,000.
Noddy Toyland Detective arrested multichannels at 161,000.

Today: 233,000
News Breakfast: 114,000 / 51,000.

Lordy, Lordy that was a poor result for ‘Bosch’…have only seen ads for its return tonight and the start was unfortunately far too late for an effective audience.

I take that rating result for Mad As Hell to be a resounding yes from the people of Australia for Shaun Micallef to take over from Justin Milne as ABC Chairman …. who’s with me.
Love it when networks are prepared to mock themselves. Adored it when HYPBA and The Project poked fun at Ten going into receivership.
Micallef bowled a perfect game last night. I doubt there’s been a better episode of Mad as Hell.
