Downton Abbey feature to premiere in a year’s time

Downton Abbey fans have a 12 month wait before the Crawley family take to the big screen.

The new Downton Abbey movie, currently filming in the UK, is set for release in a year’s time.

The feature will premiere internationally on September 13 2019.

“Since the series ended, fans of Downton have long been waiting for the Crawley family’s next chapter,” said Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski. “We’re thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of Downton to the big screen next September.”

Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Maggie Smith, and Hugh Bonneville all return, joined by Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Phillips, and Stephen Campbell Moore.

Creator Julian Fellowes has penned the screenplay and will produce alongside Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge.

  1. I’m not sure about this one. I’ve just finished watching Downton Abbey on Netflix and thoroughly enjoyed the series…again. What are the producers hoping to accomplish here in say 2 to 3 hours? The television series was lavishly produced so it’s not like the production values could be further upscaled. If another story is just itching to be told by Julian Fellowes why not offer another 8 to 10 episode run for television? I don’t find myself running to the pictures to see this one.
