Henry Cavill to star in The Witcher

Cavill takes the lead in 8 part saga based on a best-selling fantasy series.

Henry Cavill (Mission Impossible: Fallout, Justice League) will star in a new 8 part Netflix saga, The Witcher.

Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s The Defenders, Umbrella Academy) is showrunner and Executive Producer.

Directors include Alik Sakharov (House of Cards, Game of Thrones), Alex Garcia Lopez (Marvel’s Luke Cage, Utopia) and Charlotte Brändström (Outlander, Counterpart).

  1. There is some speculation about how Henry Cavill will be making this show in conjunction with the Man of Steel 2 movie as both projects could clash, my own speculation is that Cavill’s potential long term involvement with The witcher, if it proves successful, confirms he will not be the next James Bond.

    1. He’s under contract for 1 more film in his Superman Contract. WB has not decided what direction they want to go with their superhero films. Developing a bunch of films. Aquaman, Wonderwoman 2 and Shazaam being the next actually made films. There’s a rumour Cavil pops up in Shazaam in a cameo, but that is outside his 1 more film contract.
A few months ago Cavill was trying to get a Man of Steel 2 off the ground with the writer-director of Mission Impossibly: Fallout, Christopher Mcquarrie. Apparently, they spent a lot of time discussing what they’d do with such a film while making that movie. The talks apparently stalled because WB is yet to make their mind up on where to go.
Whether or not MoS2 gets made is still up in the air. I think they’re stupid to waste the opportunity to do it with Christopher Mcquarrie after his excellent work on Mission Impossible. An 8 part…
