McLachlan case subpoenas stage actors

Lawyers seeking information exchanged between actors, media, police, union, agents & journalists.

Lawyers for Craig McLachlan have sent subpoenas to Rocky Horror Show actors and crew as part of his defamation case against the ABC, Fairfax Media and Christie Whelan Browne.

The subpoenas cover communications with the media, producers/directors/managers, the police, the MEAA, agents/managers/publicists and journalist Tracey Spicer.

But on Friday lawyers for the recipients, the media outlets, and Ms Whelan Browne argued the subpoenas were too broad, and had the potential to seek personal communication that had nothing to do with the case.

McLachlan’s barrister, Matthew Richards, told the court Tracey Spicer “is a person who has boasted about her role in procuring and continuing and coordinating this investigation.

“She plainly has relevant documents.”

Justice Stephen Rothman ruled the subpoenas could be issued with some minor changes, adding he would give his reasons at a later date.

None of the allegations are linked to former ABC production The Doctor Blake Mysteries.

The case will go to trial on February 4.
