Neighbours: Sept 3

It’s a Neighbours wedding on Monday, with Australia’s first same-sex soapie wedding since the legalisation of gay marriage.

The nuptials of David Tanaka and Aaron Brennan will be led by television and film actress, comedian, writer and one of the most prominent faces of the Marriage Equality campaign in Australia, Magda Szubanski, who plays Jemima Davies-Smythe – a colourful, larger than life character who is surprisingly linked to Ramsay Street royalty.

A couple of months ago, viewers witnessed the pairs engagement whilst they were on an intimate picnic at the beach. In a spontaneous, bold and romantic display of love, Aaron proposed to David following an honest conversation about their futures.

However, much like their history as a couple, things didn’t go exactly to plan when it was revealed that David had also planned to propose to Aaron that day.

After accepting each other’s proposals, their journey to the altar commenced, but in true Neighbours style, their journey to marital bliss isn’t without last minute disasters, injuries and family drama.

6.30pm on September 3 and continues September 4 on ELEVEN.

  1. What are Neighbours’ ratings like these days? I never miss an episode and feel it’s a shame that it has such a small audience now. While this particular storyline isn’t grabbing me too much (I applaud the producers’ decision to treat it like any other marriage on the show – I just don’t find David and Aaron to be an overly likeable couple, unfortunately), I find that the quality of the show is consistently high and they manage to create interesting story lines, often bringing familiar old faces from the 80s right through to recent years back to Ramsay St, which is great! Thanks for continuing to give the show “airtime”, David!

  2. I understand ELEVEN is the home of Neighbours, however surely a screening on TEN in place of Street Smart could be of benefit to regain viewers and celebrate the milestone.
