Nine announces new kid’s show Smashdown!

Former Block contestant turned Kids WB host Andy Sunderland to front new Queensland-produced kid's show.

Former 2016 Block contestant-turned-Kids WB report Andy Sunderland will host a new kid’s sports game show for Nine.

Smashdown! has commenced production at the network’s Mt Coot-tha studios in Brisbane, where it was created internally.

The show will see kids from across the country in an interactive sports venue, alongside off-the-wall challenges and sports trivia on a circuit described as having more twists than the Monaco Grand Prix circuit. Sunderland will lead a team of comedy characters and real-life sports stars in the Smashdown! Stadium, including players, coaches, commentators and the SMASH Test Dummy,.

“I have been in the Channel Nine family for a while now and I am stoked to be able to join this program as host. By trade I am a primary school sports teacher, so I am ready to jump into the Smashdown! Stadium and find the ultimate sporty all-rounder – I can’t wait to see who our first champion is,” he said.

Executive Producer, Geoff Cooper, said: “Smashdown! is designed as a lean-forward, interactive game show for kids to play along at home, and we are delighted to locally create yet another national children’s television program from our studios here at Nine Queensland.”

The program is scheduled to launch nationally later in 2018 on 9GO!
