ABC has now confirmed its programming plans for Doctor Who after those pesky BBC programmers moved it from Saturdays to Sundays in the UK.
As previously noted, it will be available first on iview immediately after the UK transmission (time is TBA).
The extended opening Doctor Who premiere will then screen in HD at 5:45pm Monday October 8 on ABC.
On Mondays thereafter it will screen at 6pm, with the exception of the season finale also at 5:45pm (expected on Mon Dec 10).
Whovians will air at 7:30pm Mondays on ABC Comedy.
Rather than switch over immediately following Doctor Who‘s conclusion, there is a 30 minute waiting period, so hopefully it doesn’t shed too many of the audience.

So if you are in Perth and have Foxtel (like me) ABC Comedy is broadcast on Foxtel live but ABC is delayed. So Whovians will start at 4.30pm Perth time .
I wasn’t aware of this.
And this is why fast-tracking at all costs shouldn’t be the be-all and end-all. I know people will just state that it should be recorded & watched later, but that’s not always easily done when the kids are still up & not at school.
David (or anyone else), if it presumably exists, can you please inform us of the replay/encore time & channel when it comes to hand.
Quite possibly, although it may not have been that big of an outcry as long as the show was on iView.
But this 5:45 followed by 6pm start times going up against the news and whatnot are hardly ideal for the show.
It’s something of an inherent problem with fast tracking shows.
ABC, probably should’ve left it for later in the week.
Then there would have been a huge outcry, i guess they can’t win.
It’s just another example of the ABC prioritising the on-line audience in preference to traditional broadcast viewership in a desperate attempt to woo the under-45 demographic. Time will tell if it’s successful.
