SAFC announces composer mentorship recipient

Belinda Gehlert from Zephyr Quartet becomes the recipient of the first She Shoots, She Scores mentorship.

Composer Belinda Gehlert from Zephyr Quartet has been selected as the recipient of the first She Shoots, She Scores mentorship, working as attachment to former member of The Go-Betweens Amanda Brown (Look Both Ways, Red Obsession, Grace Beside Me and The Family).

Amanda Brown said, “Belinda was an outstanding applicant for a variety of reasons. Her writing for strings was superb but she also demonstrated compositional flair across other musical genres – a necessary skill in the life of a screen composer. I look forward to working with Belinda and giving her the professional grounding to succeed as a film composer in SA – a state already known for quality film making and support for music and the arts.”

Belinda Gehlert said, “I am absolutely thrilled to have been chosen for the She Shoots, She Scores paid composer attachment. I am really excited to be working with Amanda Brown and am looking forward to learning more about screen composition and the screen industry from someone with such extensive experience.”

CEO of the South Australian Film Corporation, Courtney Gibson said, “This initiative delivers on the SAFC’s Gender Agenda to enable greater participation in the screen sector by female creatives, and it supports Belinda to crossover from composing for live performance to composing for the screen.”

President of the Australian Guild of Screen Composers, Caitlin Yeo said, “The AGSC was thrilled to partner with SAFC and the MDO to award the She Shoots, She Scores mentorship to Belinda. Belinda’s application was outstanding and we wish her every success in her career.”

The She Shoots, She Scores paid composer attachment is an initiative of the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) and the South Australian Government’s Music Development Office (MDO), in partnership with the Australian Guild of Screen Composers (AGSC).
