US actor Bill Daily, best known for I Dream of Jeannie, has died.

US actor Bill Daily, best known for I Dream of Jeannie, has died aged 91.

He died on Tuesday of natural causes in New Mexico, family advised.

Daily (pictured left) played goofy Major Roger Healey on I Dream of Jeannie from 1965-70, as the best friend of astronaut, Major Anthony Nelson (Larry Hagman).

From 1972-78 he played Howard Borden, a neighbour on The Bob Newhart Show. Across both roles he battled dyslexia and had to memorise all his lines to keep going.

There were also appearances on Bewitched, The Farmer’s Daughter, The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The Mike Douglas Show, Aloha Paradise, The Love Boat, Love American Style, ALF, Starting From Scratch, and Match Game.

“I called him our bullpen man. Whenever we were having trouble with a script on the show, we’d have Bill make an appearance,” Bob Newhart said. “In recent years we had hoped to have Bill be a part of The Bob Newhart Show tributes at the TV Academy but by then he was no longer travelling. He was one of the most positive people I ever knew and we’ll dearly miss him.”

  1. Why aren’t there any ways to watch shows like, ” The Bob Newhart Show” in Australia anymore?

When I was younger, Foxtel used to air all sorts of classic shows on things like Nick at Night.

  2. Nice man….I remember him in other shows…he was a great foil for the others in Bewitched…and kudos for doing it with dyslexia…not an easy task…..Respect!
