60 Minutes: Oct 14

A 60 Minutes special edition looks into a 2007 WA murder and clues that may have been missed.

True crime continues to draw in viewers, and this Sunday’s 60 Minutes has a special edition hears from Lloyd Rayney, a WA barrister cleared of the murder of his wife, but who is still looking for answers.

As if the 2007 murder of Corryn Rayney wasn’t traumatic and incomprehensible enough for her family, the unrelenting police pursuit of her husband as the perpetrator must be one of the most appalling denials of justice and decency imaginable. Lloyd Rayney was a high-profile Perth barrister who was presumed guilty of the murder almost from the moment his wife’s body was discovered in a bush grave in a city park. But in a special edition of 60 Minutes, Tara Brown reports that detectives missed or ignored other vital clues. As a consequence of the flawed investigation, whoever did murder Corryn Rayney remains unknown and unpunished. Lloyd Rayney, on the other hand, is a broken man after being hounded by the WA Police. In 2012, a court found him not guilty of willful murder, with the judge describing the prosecution case as being beset by “improbabilities and uncertainties”. But that doesn’t ease the pain for the man who wants the police to now put aside their prejudices against him, conduct a proper investigation, and find his wife’s killer.

  1. Interesting that Corryn Rayney’s father and sister were not afforded the opportunity to tell what they know. Lloyd Rayney made several conflicting statements to them before and after Corryn’s body was found.

Where is Corryn Rayney’s passport? Why was it missing from the time from the moment she disappeared? Why did Lloyd Rayney say to his father-in-law “her friends made her do this” implying that she ran away and possibly left the country?

Why was he not concerned about her not having returned the night they had agreed to meet to discuss long ongoing bitter separation arguments. (He had engaged divorce lawyer Bill Carr to represent him long before she was killed)

Why did 60 minutes go soft on him? Why no follow up question to the “Did you kill Corryn?” question. Why not follow it up with “Did you hire someone or seek any kind of assistance to kill Corryn?)

    Why are…
