“A few more years” at Sunrise says David Koch

Sunrise host chalks up 16 years, thanking viewers & "the bosses who’ve decided there’s a few more years left in the old codger."

Tabloid mags everywhere are now dumping drafts of Kochie rumours and network jostling after David Koch has indicated he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon from Sunrise.

As he chalks up 16 years with the show, he tweeted, “Sweet 16 years on @sunriseon7 today. Thanks for having me as part of your morning for so long and grateful to the entire Sunrise team for their support and assistance. Thanks also to the bosses who’ve decided there’s a few more years left in the old codger.”

A year ago he negotiated a 4 day week on the long-running Seven show.

His message comes at a time when Sunrise has been triumphant over a struggling Today, last week sinking to another 12 year survey low of 196,000 viewers.

It also means rumours of a replacement, including Weekend Sunrise co-host Basil Zempalis, will be off the boil for some time.

Sunrise today staged a Michael Buble concert for fans in the plaza.

  1. Love Koshie. Last week when they did a story and talked about “mens big feet, does that compare with anything else?” Koshie chimed in and said ‘Yes it does. I have small feet’, it cracked me up and I spilt my cereal.

  2. Kochie is a legend, it’s no wonder Sunrise are still streets ahead in the ratings after all these years.
Nat is also a great talent and she and Sam do an amazing job when Kochie is off duty… it’s great to see such a consistent team after all these years.

  3. Fine if Kochie wants to work 4 days, but it would be good if they could keep his day off consistent so viewers know who they will see when they tune in. At the moment it’s Monday one week, Thursday the next then Tuesday etc. Also I think it would be better to have another male host fill his place not Natalie Barr, not trying to be sexist just think breakfast TV works better with both a strong male and strong female personality. If Basil doesn’t want to commit to extra days in the east Michael Usher would be my pick.

  4. Congrats Kochie, a fantastic run to date! Though personally, him nor Melissa Doyle / Samantha Armytage were major factors for me once tuning-in to the show regularly, but rather Natalie Barr and Mark Beretta. Both I feel are under appreciated and possibly underrated, two of the best news presenters going around, present well and articulate it as it should be, both too have been there since day dot (or there abouts), I also doubt I’m the only one – so other possibly reasons for Sunrise’s stronger ratings.
