New UK comedy-drama The Bisexual will debut on Stan this Thursday.

The six-part series written, directed and starring Iranian-American filmmaker Desiree Akhavan, takes a candid look at people’s approach to love and sex, and what the love and sex they’re drawn to reveals about them.

Akhavan (Appropriate Behaviour) co-writes (with Cecilia Frugiuele), directs and stars in the series, produced by Hootenanny for Hulu in the USA and Channel 4 in the UK.

Nick Forward, Stan Chief Content Officer said “Desiree Akhavan is an extraordinary talent, and her unique take on the complications of modern dating is incredibly timely. We’re looking forward to bringing The Bisexual to audiences at the same time as its worldwide premiere.”

This screens same day as the UK.

The Bisexual is a six-part comedy drama exploring the differences between dating men and women from the perspective of a person who finds herself – for the first time – doing both. BAFTA nominated Maxine Peake (Peterloo Three Girls, Funny Cow) and Brian Gleeson (Hellboy, Phantom Thread, Stonemouth) star alongside acclaimed screenwriter, director and actress Desiree Akhavan (The Miseducation of Cameron Post, Appropriate Behaviour) in her first television project.

The Bisexual also stars Eva Birthistle (The Last Kingdom, Brooklyn), John Dagleish (Justice League, Sunny Afternoon, The Monuments Men), Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth, Yardie, Star Wars: Episode 9), Niamh Algar (The Virtues) and newcomers Saskia Chana and Michelle Guillot.

Thursday October 11 on Stan.

  1. Interesting, I cant help thinking that in this era of sexual introspection The Bisexual is a show that only women can make and write about as anything exploiting sex or sexuality of this type, if done by men, can be interpreted as being too explicit, voyeuristic and not exploring the intricacies of peoples sexuality enough.
