Netflix has axed martial arts series Marvel’s Iron Fist after just 2 seasons.

Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix,” Marvel & Netflix said in a statement. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners.

“We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

Discontinuing comic action heroes is rare at Netflix, but Jessica Jones was renewed for a third season while Luke Cage is expected to get the formal go-ahead any day now. Daredevil‘s third season is about to launch on Netflix on October 19.

Daredevil spinoff The Punisher was also given a second season.

  1. Interesting, I take my cue on watching the Marvel shows from my son who put me onto Daredevil and the rest flowed from there. He did however tell me not to waste time on Iron Fist unless I am really bored!

PS I am struggling through the second season of Luke Cage as well, somehow it just have not grabbed me at all.

  2. Netflix are having a few issues with their own productions and not just Marvels Iron Fist, which when compared with its main action rival Daredevil was never able to match the graphic violence or fight choreography, I suspect fans of Daredevil turned off. Perhaps an actor with genuine martial arts skills and more athletic flair could have helped Iron Fist along but overall the imagery of violence looked toned down, the lack of martial art expertise was concealed by over active film editing jumping from one scene to another. The final episode looked like Danny (Finn Jones) was saying goodbye and so it proved. I doubt Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) could hold a show on her own but who knows, there’s also The Defenders, is that to be cancelled as well. DC’s new show Titans could show what potential Iron Fist may have had.

  3. We still haven’t made it to S2. We’re 4 episodes into S2 of Luke Cage and are struggling to care about it but know we need to finish it before Iron Fist and then Daredevil.

  4. This is quite disappointing news, this is the first netfix series I enjoyed that has been canceled. The cliffhanger at the end of season 2 where Colleen received the Iron Fist and Danny also gained new powers with the Iron Fist would have been awesome to explore in season 3. This show was underrated and critics trashed it a lot, but it had a lot of fans.

  5. Danny will live on in Luke Cage I reckon… and there’s significant fan hope that a Daughters of the Dragon mini series featuring Colleen and Misty teaming up will get the go ahead. I’m convinced we haven’t seen the last of Danny and Colleen in the TV Marvel Universe… it’s just going to be weird not to have all the major players with their own shows. That’s always been the appeal for me, that all these shows are happening simultaneously with each other. Oh well… it really wasn’t that great anyway…
