Bachelor fizzer: “What a giant waste of time that was”

Honey Badger.....you had one job.

Bachelor fans have taken to social media to vent their fury at Nick “Honey Badger” Cummins, producers and TEN after he failed to choose a winner in the season finale.

In a Bachelor twist more bizarre than an episode of UnREAL, Cummins told both Sophie and Brittany he was not able to commit to either, despite both following the format traditions of admitting they had fallen for him by the finale.

First he told Sophie, “I like you a lot, Sophie. And when I say those three words, I want to mean it with all my heart. And we’d both then be happy. True happiness. I’m not able with all my conscious to whole wholeheartedly commit to you. Right now at this point, our journey comes to an end.”

Then he told Brittany, “I won’t be entering any relationships if I can’t give 100 per cent of me. I’m not looking for a girlfriend, I’m looking for a life partner. And right now I can’t give 100 per cent of me to you. My head is very cloudy. Right now I’m a little bit lost. And because of that I have to say this time has come to an end and let you go.”

Leaving the New Caledonian location, a stunned Brittany summed it up best: “What a giant waste of time that was,” before heading straight to Sophie to commiserate. The audience feels the same.

“I feel sorry for him” said a stunned Sophie.

“It’s Nick’s loss,” Brittany replied.

Meanwhile Cummins has filmed one interview for TEN and fled to Papua New Guinea. But his brand will surely take a big hit from this anti-climax, just as he is about to release a new book.

The finale fail echoes the backflip by Blake Garvey in 2014 who dumped Sam Frost after an on-air proposal.

  1. The Honey Badger’s career and love life is over. Sophie and Britney could still end up getting picked up for something. Sam Frost got a radio show and role in Home and Away.

    1. Doubt that Cummins career and love life are “over”. Lots of admiration out there for someone who tells the truth, and his career as a footballer (or previous one) is irrelevant to this competition show.

  2. I thank my wife and daughter for forcing me to watch it last night. It was the funniest thing I’ve seen on TV since…forever. And so, he walks off down the (dirty) beach, looking for Jarrod perhaps, in the same fashion faux pas, blue suit with brown shoes. Girls, you missed a bullet there. Somehow I think he may resurface on “The Bachelor 2050”, still looking.

  3. So this is what many people were talking about on my social media pages and at work today.? I think i was the only one who didnt watch it last night. Lol. I felt so out of the loop this morning.

  4. This has happened in the US bach….didn’t damage the brand at all. Glad he didn’t pick someone for the sake of it. Previews for The Bachelotertte looked good.

    1. This.

Anyone who thinks this season has “damaged” the franchise is daft. Have we forgotten the huge media storm that was Blake Garvey?? If anything, the producers would be loving all the media attention this has received. I cannot wait for the interviews on the Sunday Project.

I just hope this is the end of the celeb Bachelor/ettes in all honesty.

          1. I thought that was obvious to everybody . She changed the game u can’t go back to boring characters now !!

  5. I didn’t watch it, but I think that took more guts than to just pick anybody for the sake of it then dump them after the required 2 months or whatever it is like pretty much everyone has done except for Tim & Anna.

  6. Gees somebody finally has the guts to tell the truth on one off these silly contrived game shows and social media has to threaten him. Good on Cummins for being one of the few people to appear on these shows and show some integrity.

  7. You know what, I think good for him. I know people wanted to live the dream and believe that this fantasy would always result in him finding love, but that is not reality. I think the idea that an office sweep is more important than the lives of people, or the truth, is selfish

  8. I think everyone is missing the point. This is brilliant producing as it is promoting discussion. It increases the impact tenfold. If he had picked someone, it’s the same as every other year. The story lives a lot longer than usual this way. Definitely not damaging to the brand as viewers are always looking for “what happens next”.

  9. Plus he hasn’t even stuck around to answer questions and do interviews about it (except for Lisa Wilkinson on The Project on Sunday night). Not classy at all ! I only watched the last bit and didn’t think Brittany looked all that interested in him either. Stone the crows he messed that one up !!

  10. Well I just told my husband about this. The Honey Badger has been elevated to “legend” status in his mind as a result. Thinking it may not do his brand too much harm once this news reaches the people who detest this kind of show ?. Personally, good on him for showing some integrity.

    1. The viewer outrage for sure… “I’ve wasted 10 weeks of my life for this” is my fave… what were you actually going to get from your 10 weeks of effort if he picked one of them and they dated for 6 months? If anything, people have been given more than they would have if he actually chose someone, now they’ve got something new to talk about with Sarah and Joel at lunchtime today over their vegan Caesar salads.

  11. Although this was already a given , watch now this season of the bachelorette debut to lowest numbers ever and will keep rating as the worst season of any bachelor of any season both shows

  12. Looking at ‘Related’ pics…they should have gone with Jason Dundas…he has a more Bachelor bod…They went for the mouth and it failed….It all about the beautiful people…not deep and meaningful.

  13. I agree with Catherine – I really can’t wait for the Goggleboxers to cover this!!
But honestly – what a waste of people’s time. He knew what he was signing up for. Does he not get the concept? People have office sweeps on this, like the Melbourne Cup. I wonder what happened to the actual betting odds.
And honestly – you aren’t that amazing g that people will easily forgive you for this. So good luck…

  14. I have a very different view. I actually think this makes him more “real” for admitting the process didn’t work for him. Why should he have to find someone this way? It’s a very unnatural way to find a partner – and look back at how many “matches” have since failed. Lest we forget the guy who proposed only to dump her after the show and go with the runner-up – a relationship which also failed. Nick had the integrity to say that none of these women were for him. How is that bad?

      1. Spot on David. The producers have known all season he didn’t choose anyone. They should have been promoting “will Nick find love?” instead of “who will he choose?”

      1. Thanks. I understand the frustration people have with the production – there is an argument they misrepresented the finale, but I have respect for Nick and his decision. I think Wil Anderson’s Facebook post said it best: (copy/paste below)…

“I am outraged that the Bachelor didn’t choose anyone in the finale as opposed to what you are meant to do which is choose someone and then dump them three months later via press release after you have been invited to all the marquees at the races.” – (Wil Anderson)

    1. I’m with you gregaus. Let’s face it the producers don’t pick 20 or so women who are great matches for the Bachelor, there’s probably half a dozen at best who could be a match and the rest are there purely for the drama. In this case it could be argued that the producers picked the wrong half dozen. In any event, no-one should be required to pick someone just because they are on a show. I say good on him and I respect him for his honest decision. Much better than what Blake did.

  15. Can’t wait to see what the people on gogglebox have to say about this next week.

But seriously how could he not just picked one. That’s the whole point. It just leaves you feeling flat

  16. I would say it’s not only his brand that will take a hit. The Bachelor program itself will be damaged after viewers get over this monumental fizzer.

    1. Agreed. He is supposed to pick one then break up later. It’s a tried and successful formula. Nobody will want to invest their time watching another season after this.
