Ben Fordham: “I have no intentions of going back to Today”

Ben Fordham talks down speculation he is next in the chair at Nine breakfast show.

Ben Fordham has denied recurring speculation he may soon be replacing Karl Stefanovic on Today.

The Daily Telegraph has published quotes denying any imminent move.

“Not at all, I have no intentions of going back to Today,” Fordham said.

“I had a great time on the show with Karl and Georgie and the team for many years but won’t be returning any time soon.

“I wake up with (family) Jodie, Freddy and Pearl and that will continue for a long, long time,” he said.

2GB is understood to require any approval of further media commitments for its drive host and adding breakfast TV as a permanent fixture would doubtless be a tall order.

But there is also little doubt he is the favourite when Stefanovic does eventually exit.

In March this year News boss Darren Wick practically anointed him as successor, telling TV Tonight Fordham was a clever interviewer.

“He’s been filling in regularly now, so we’ve got our structures right. Rather than throwing a person in and thinking ‘Could they be the next Karl? Could they be the next Lisa, the next Georgie?’ we clearly know what our structures are with everybody coming in,” he said.

  1. He fills in a fair bit for Andrew Bolt on The Bolt Report, including last week, although a one hour solo show is an easier commitment than a 4 hour breakfast show.
