Block dominates as Game of Games sinks

Ratings: TEN fails to rise above 400,000 viewers, while The Block hogs a crowd and Telethon celebrates in WA.

TEN has had another sorry Sunday, failing to rise above 400,000 viewers as its latest shiny floor show struggles to attract a broad audience.

The Block‘s final reveal dominated viewing at 1.19m viewers, streets ahead of its nearest competition, which strictly speaking was ABC News at 747,000.

But traditionally we compare with entertainment titles, being Seven’s All Together Now at 675,000 (including a later broadcast in Perth due to Telethon) and TEN’s Game of Games from 7:30pm. The Grant Denyer-hosted show sank to just 325,000 viewers, barely staying above SBS. It trailed Invictus Games Today debuting to 478,000 for ABC. If there is any comfort for TEN it is that the show was second in its slot with younger viewers.

After 8:30pm 60 Minutes ranked first at 425,000 then Sunday Night (also later in WA) and Pine Gap, falling from 581,000 to 433,000. NCIS drew 307,000 from 9pm.

Earlier Nine News defeated Seven News.

Nine network easily won Sunday with 34.1% then Seven 28.7%, ABC 17.7%, TEN 12.2% and SBS 7.3%.

The Block was #1 for Nine with 1.19m then Nine News (966,000), 60 Minutes (882,000), and Armed and Deadly (311,000).

Seven News (907,000) was best for Seven then All Together Now (675,000), Sunday Night (456,000) and Murder Uncovered (238,000). In Perth Telethon drew 145,000 in primetime.

ABC News was high at 747,000 for ABC then Invictus Games Today (478,000), Pine Gap (433,000) and Vera (273,000).

The Project (370,000 / 277,000) was the best TEN could manage then Game of Games (325,000), NCIS (307,000), TEN Eyewitness News (289,000), Elementary (130,000), and Bondi Rescue (100,000).

On SBS it was Ancient Invisible Cities (246,000), Trump’s Showdown (149,000) and SBS World News (136,000).

Best on multichannels was 7TWO’s Border Security on 176,000.

    1. Come on, she is bringing all that hard-hitting journalistic experience she learnt from Cleo Magazine and the Today show, to the newsbreaking Project TV show….

  1. I don’t mind G of G. It’s something different and fresh…but
We are Australia….We don’t need over the top contestants….but personality is good.
Get rid of the multi-cam replays
Give the co-host more to do like introduce the contestants…..Grant should not hog the hosting duties
Cut it back to 60 mins.

Next week it should rate higher if the Block is dropped.
Don’t axe it….move it to another night if it does not lift in the next 3 weeks.

      1. I saw ABC were equal with Channel 7 on Saturday night. So did the delay actually help the ABC, in that usually later night shares boost networks because of little or less competition.

  2. Kudos to Ten for trying Game of Games. The audience doesn’t seem to be connecting with it though. Both it and The Sunday Project (which despite the addition of Lisa Wilkinson has been a ratings flop all year) should be shafted in 2019.

  3. Hi David, would you be able to tell me what the ratings where for the final episode of A Place To Call Home last night on Foxtel Showcase. Much appreciated. Thanks

  4. I found GoG to have improved, contestants had simmered, although only marginally, Grant had definitely relaxed, if it is to survive though either make it shorter, or on earlier, and please, please, tone down the contestants, and the constant 3x replays of every moment, I also think its a sat 630 show, but hey, better than the other offerings
