Call for Entries: Best Medicine script lab

5 regionally-based emerging screenwriters are invited to undertake development work on a new TV series.

Five regionally-based emerging screenwriters are invited to apply for a 5 day script lab conducted by Screenworks and Matchbox Pictures.

The initiative supported by Screen Australia’s Enterprise Ideas funding program and Create NSW Early Development Funding will entail development the new TV series, Best Medicine.

Best Medicine is an original concept written by Tim Williams that revolves around an out of work actor who finds himself performing as a Clown Doctor in a teenage cancer ward. His life takes on unexpected new meaning as a result of his time spent with a ward of complex teenage patients.

A script lab in Lismore from November 12 – 16 will be led by internationally acclaimed writer Holly Phillips (Millie In Between) and the Script Development Team from Matchbox Pictures.

Screenworks CEO Ken Crouch explained, “As the regional film office, Screenworks is a conduit between regional voices and Australia’s major production companies. We’re looking forward to working with Matchbox Pictures to uncover talented new writers who can contribute to creating quality and diverse stories for national and international screens and to creating new career pathways for those living outside the main production hubs.”

“Matchbox prides itself on quality storytelling through a diversity of voices. Partnering with Screenworks to tap into Australia’s under-represented regions provides a rich opportunity to harness the creative power of fresh and distinctive writing talent,” said Matt Vitins, acting Managing Director of Matchbox Pictures.

Applications are now open and will close at midnight on Tuesday 16 October.
