Global producers unite for new creative alliance

Producers from 14 nations sign a memorandum of understanding to work towards new co-productions.

Screen Producers Australia and 14 other TV and film trade associations from around the world came together at MIPCOM in Cannes, France have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to form the Global Creative Alliance.

The new partnership aims to encourage more effective international collaboration between producers and increase opportunities for co-productions.

Also signing were industry reps from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, France, Germany, India, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, the USA and the UK.

Australian industry names included Screen Australia’s Graeme Mason, Harry Avramedis and Shana Levine; Jonathan M Shiff Productions’ Julia Adams; and producers Leanne Tonkes, Lois Randall, and Dena Curtis.

All parties commit to using best efforts to share information such as market intelligence and reports that will benefit each other. They also endeavour to arrange delegations to visit each other to share best practices and enable producers to foster new creative relationships.

Each party will also act as an administrator for the Production Platform, an online networking tool launched by Pact in 2017, which is available to TV companies worldwide. It allows registered users to pitch ideas to each other for international collaboration and communicate via the tool to develop those ideas.

Screen Producers Australia, CEO, Matthew Deaner stated “The Screen Production in Australia report highlighted that Australian content is exported to over 200 international markets, with export revenue from Australian independent production businesses totalling $163 million in 2017. The launch of the GCA will not only assist in getting more Australian co-productions off the ground, but will also provide Australian producers with intel in how to break into new international markets and continue to Make It Australian.”
