Nine’s Hay Mate: Buy a Bale concert, has raised over $2 million.

Sonia Kruger, David Campbell and Richard Wilkins hosted the event at Scully Park in Tamworth, featuring John Farnham, Daryl Braithwaite, Andrew Farris, Guy Sebastian, Jon Stevens, The Veronicas, Adam Harvey and Nat Conway.

Nine’s Head of Content, Production and Development, Adrian Swift, said: “In an overwhelming show of support, Australians have dug deep for our struggling farmers and shown them what their hard work and resilience means to the nation. No doubt these funds will provide some much-needed relief to those suffering hard times. I’d also like to say a big thank you to Glenn Wheatley and John Farnham for their passion and leadership in pulling this great line up together and for showing rural Australia just how much we care.”

Nine’s Entertainment Editor, Richard Wilkins said: “It’s been an incredible night. The performances were fantastic and I am utterly amazed at Australia’s generosity. I hope our farmers doing it tough feel the support and can breathe a little easier tonight knowing Australia is backing them.”

“I speak on behalf of our farmers and say a huge thank you. And to the generous team at Nine, thank you for broadcasting into homes across Australia. It has been an amazing ride and I look forward to seeing the smiling faces of those families and farmers who have benefited from tonight’s efforts. It’s all been worth it,” said promoter Glenn Wheatley.

“This event would not have been possible without the generous support of the sponsors, Qantas, Woolworths, Toyota, News Corp Australia and Optus, to do something special to improve the plight of our farmers.”

  2. The 2 Million seems a very rubbery figure after it was only $980,000 late at the end of the show. With all those high profile sponsors , you think they could have simply donated the money. Truth is, it is going to be years before the farmers get an income even after good rain and restocking. It won’t go very far at all. Mr Wheatley should check other events calendar next time. Invictus was tops.

  3. It was a shame it clashed with the Invictus Games Closing Ceremony. I chose to watch that then flicked over to see the end of the concert.
    But any money donated is helpful. Well done to all.

  5. Not promoted well on air or in media in the immediate lead up, in my opinion. I was aware of it ages ago when it was announced, and made a mental note that I really wanted to watch and support it – but since then, not much if anything in media promoting it. Last night, I just stumbled upon it while looking at the EPG to check the start time of the Invictus Games. Also, given the Invictus Games Closing Ceremony was also on, with the date known for two years – why pick last night for a telethon, where you want maximum eyeballs to watch and donate eg Perth Telethon and the Melbourne Good Friday Appeal?

    3. Not just you. I thought it was low also, considering in Perth last weekend we raised 38 million in our telethon! But it’s 2 million more than the farmers had before so great all round!
