Neil Gaiman signs deal with Amazon

American Gods and Good Omens creator signs major creative deal.

British author and screenwriter Neil Gaiman (American Gods) has signed a deal with Amazon Studios.

Post-production is currently underway on Good Omens, co-written with the late Terry Pratchett, and starring David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Jon Hamm and Frances McDormand.

The streaming giant has now secured an exclusive TV development deal with the author for future projects, and comes after Gaiman’s first-look TV deal with Fremantle which expired earlier this year.

“Neil Gaiman is a phenomenally talented writer, who creates worlds that are compelling, multi-dimensional and narratively unique,” said Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke. “His fans are ardent, vocal and passionate and we are fortunate to bring his gifted vision to the Prime Video audience.”

Gaiman said: “What decided me was how much I enjoyed working with the Amazon team on Good Omens. They are smart, gloriously enthusiastic people, who weren’t afraid of Good Omens being different but who were as determined as I was to make something as unique and exciting as it is. I’m thrilled to know that I’ll have a home at Amazon in the future where I can make television that nobody’s seen before, that’s quite unlike Good Omens, but just as unusual and just as much fun.”

  1. The photo makes me think of an older version of the 80’s comedy series The Young Ones, so this show could be called The Semi-Old Ones, to celebrate the hipster movement, that is unless there is an underlying anarchistic theme, which with a rather gaunt looking David Tennant in the main role, might be the case.

  2. Brilliant author. Enjoyed the TV adaptation of American Gods although it sounds like series 2 is experiencing some difficulties. Looking forward to Good Omens.
