Weekend Sunrise was recently part of a hoax in which Vice reporter Oobah Butler had his brother impersonate him in a Live interview.
The segment saw Monique Wright and Basil Zempilas interviewing who they believed to be Butler over another prank in which he took a pair of $35 jeans bought at a London market to Paris Fashion Week and convinced fashionistas he was a real designer.
“My brother was about to be interviewed in the same studio with the same presenters in the same show in front of, like, the biggest audience in Australia,” Butler says (NB: Wright & Andrew O’Keefe did a previous interview).
“The identity fluidity that the internet has brought us, I’m not even the same person I was a year ago. There’s something fun there as well, losing yourself in it,” Butler’s brother told them.
The segment aired on Seven in June.
