Oops. Wrong plane with the Royals.

Touchdown? Royal watch cameras were looking at British Airways not Qantas jets this morning.

Breakfast TV was so giddy over the arrival of Prince Harry & Meghan in Sydney this morning that Sunrise & Today announced their arrival with live cameras pointed at a British Airways flight just after 6am.

One problem: they were on a Qantas flight landing just before 7am.

Eventually they got it right, with Sunrise six mins ahead of Today at 7:03am.

  1. Was watching Sunrise and it was one of the funniest moments on free-to-air TV this year when they realised what has happened.
Says alot for comedy nowdays though :S

  2. It was funny, even Kochie and Sam had to laugh about it. The cameras sat zero’d in on the back door exit for over an hour after the British Airways plane landed before they found out the royals had switched to Qantas and it hadn’t landed yet. Gee they would’ve lost a lot in hardly having any advertising cause they didn’t want to miss them. Today discovered the mistake about 10 minutes after Sunrise.

  3. Our commercial news services never look so pathetic than at times like this, filling the dead air with inanity. I watched it unfold like a train wreck and could not look away. I doubt there would be many people actually hanging out for a glimpse of the royals at the airport.
