Producer Greg Berlanti defends Ruby Rose

First photo released of Ruby Rose as Batwoman as producer responds to backlash.

A first photo has been released of Ruby Rose as Batwoman after US producer Greg Berlanti defended her casting in upcoming episodes of his Arrow universe.

Rose even quit Twitter over the furore about the lesbian character.

Speaking to media at the recent during the L.A. LGBT Center Vanguard Awards, Berlanti recalled outrage over a gay kiss between two male stars.

“Whenever you’re bringing change about in any form, there are always conversations that happen. I go all the way back to Dawson’s Creek,” he told the Hollywood Reporter.

“Twitter didn’t exist, but we would get boxes of letters expressing opinions in all directions from were we making enough change, should we be making more change, or why did we feel like we needed to do these things? It’s always part of the process, so just focus on the story and make the best episode that you can.”

He added that “[Ruby] is terrific in the role, and we’re excited for people to see the story.”

FOX8 will screen Ruby Rose’s debut as part of a crossover event in December.

    1. Only time will tell wont it, the producers of Arrow who seem highly commercialised and always wanting to expand their DC universe are testing public opinion here, so they may expand this LGBT theme further if Ruby succeeds, who knows.
