UK drama Marcella, which has aired in Australian on Netflix and ABC, has been renewed for a third season of 8 episodes.
The series by Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge) stars Anna Friel as a Metropolitan police officer at a crisis point in her personal life, driven by rejection and intuition.
“Hans Rosenfeldt has proven himself to be a master storyteller in the English language over the past two seasons of Marcella, and it’s a real pleasure to be collaborating with him once again in the third season of this remarkable drama hit,” producer Tony Wood said.
Friel also won an international Emmy for playing the title character.

Watched both seasons & Anna Friel absolutely deserved her Emmy award. Her portrayal of a totally broken and tormented person 1 min and then a completely sane and brilliant detective the next was outstanding. At least we find out why in the 2nd season.
But … the final scene of season 2 just doesn’t make sense. For me to explain why would be a huge spoiler … so I’ll just say, pay particular attention when Marcella goes to the hospital at approx. 34 min and then to the final scene (last 2 mins).
Despite my concerns of the season 2 ending, all I can say is … hurry up season 3.
This show is absolutely bonkers in a very good way! Anna Friel is amazing!
This is a great show, well written and acted . Looking forward to series 3.
