Sophia Zachariou exits Create NSW

Director of Screen Investment, Engagement & Attraction departs state funding body.

Sophia Zachariou has departed Create NSW as Director of Screen Investment, Engagement & Attraction.

She joined the state funding body (then Screen NSW) in February 2016 as a Development and Production Executive under CEO Courtney Gibson, following her role as Deputy Head of Entertainment at ABC overseeing such titles as Gruen, Kitchen Cabinet,  The Chaser’s War on Everything, and At the Movies.

Prior to her time at the ABC she was the producer of the legendary short film series Eat Carpet for SBS, and as an independent she produced Australia’s first short film initiative for smartphones, Micromovies, in 2004.

“We can confirm that Sophia Zachariou, Director Screen Investment, Engagement & Attraction has advised that she has decided to leave Create NSW to pursue other opportunities within the screen industry,” Create NSW said in a statement.

“We thank her for her passion and commitment to Create NSW and wish Sophia all the best for her future endeavours.

“Senior Manager Sally Regan has been appointed as Acting Director Screen Investment, Engagement and Attraction effective immediately. A recruitment process to appoint a new Director will commence soon.”
