Steve Carell will join Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston for Apple’s upcoming drama surrounding a morning TV show -his first series role since The Office.
In the yet to be titled series, Carell will play play Mitch Kessler, a morning show anchor who is struggling to maintain relevance in a changing media landscape.
Announced last year, the project was the first drama series to be ordered by Apple with a 2×10 season order.
The series is based on an idea from Michael Ellenberg and will draw background material from CNN senior media correspondent Brian Stelter’s 2013 book “Top of the Morning,” which recounted the recent rivalry between NBC’s Today and ABC’s Good Morning America.
Ellenberg’s Media Res studio, Aniston and Witherspoon are the principle owners of the show.

I wish both Jen and Reese were in the series as well. There comedic relationship in Friends was great.

Excited for this. Hopefully they have someone from behind the scenes of thr Today show or GMA. I need to find my apple TV I guess.
