US medical drama The Resident has been given a full series order taking it to 22 episodes.
The drama, which stars Matt Czuchry, Bruce Greenwood, Manish Dayal & Emily VanCamp, had previously been given 13 episodes, on par with its first season of 14.
Three episodes of the second season have aired in the US so far, at up to 4.92 overnight viewers. Seven returned the series this week.
“Amy Holden Jones, Todd Harthan and the amazing team behind The Resident have brilliantly offered viewers the ability to see the medical industry through a different lens,” said Michael Thorn, president of entertainment for FOX Broadcasting Company. “We can’t wait to watch the exceptional cast, as they continue to roam the halls of Chastain Memorial Hospital.”
Aussie Phillip Noyce, who directed the pilot, is one of several executive producers.

I’d prefer they stick to 13/14 episode seasons. Hope we don’t get a whole bunch of filler as a result.
