This is a 2 hour special produced by RJMedia.

Over the years, Bondi has shaped Australia’s lifestyle and how we’re viewed as a nation. From the dark hours of Black Sunday to a modern tourist hotspot, this is the story of how Bondi went from a quiet suburban Aussie beach to one of the most popular and recognised places on Earth; told by the eclectic group of people who live there.

Bondi is no ordinary beach; over the years it’s shaped Australia’s lifestyle, our culture and the way we’re viewed as a nation … but the influence of Bondi Beach also extends beyond our shores, impacting nations, companies and individuals throughout the world.

Bondi Beach – History in the Making is an entertaining and engaging journey from Bondi’s past to its present. Full of colourful characters and rich history, it’s a story that has come to define who we are as a nation, but it’s also a global story as we explore the world’s fascination with Bondi and discover how a typical suburban Aussie beach morphed into to a world icon that attracts millions of international visitors every year.

No-one knows Bondi’s stories better than its locals and we’ve unearthed Bondi’s greatest characters and most entertaining story-tellers to share the moments and the memories that catapulted their backyard beach to one of the most recognised places on Earth.

Our story captures the essence of Bondi as we meet its residents, legends and champions and visitors. Through their local eyes we explore the global phenomenon that is Bondi Beach. Along the way we discover their secret places and hear their first-hand accounts of Bondi’s famous stories.

Bondi Beach – History in the Making will document the rich history of one of the world’s truly iconic beaches; from humble introduction to the world at the turn of the century, to now being one of the most recognised places on earth!

While the program is essentially a historical piece and a ‘journey through time,’ it will be produced in a way that is both engaging & entertaining. The most effective way to do this is to keep it personality-driven and have the characters themselves tell their stories. The beach cannot be defined simply by facts but more so by its character and personality.

7.30pm Sunday November 18 on National Geographic.
