Gold Coast to host Eurovision Asia? No comment say producers.
Gold Coast has its heart set on hosting Eurovision Asia in a year, but producers are talking it down.

If Eurovision Asia ever gets off the ground, the Gold Coast is hoping to become the first host city.
A Gold Coast City Council report suggests the event to take place from November 30 to December 7, 2019 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.
“Eurovision Asia is huge,” Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate told Nine News.
“(It reaches) over 200 million people.”
Well, at the moment it doesn’t reach anybody, it has never been staged, but the potential footprint would be huge, yes.
A report indicates that a full line-up of countries will be announced in May next year.
A City of Gold Coast report says the event’s long term strategy is to hold Eurovision Asia there every four years for the next 12 years.
But Blink TV’s Paul Clarke, has shut down the rumours – saying that there is “nothing to say at this stage.”
Last month outgoing SBS managing director Michael Ebeid told TV Tonight, “It’s probably been my one disappointment. I would have liked to have made more progress on that. It’s just proven too geo-politically difficult.
“We are still talking to a few of the countries but we have put all our energy into this other idea we’re planning to announce soon. It’s more in our control and continent, whereas trying to get 10 Asian countries to agree has proven really difficult.”
Today is the closing day for compositions to be considered to represent Australia at Eurovision next May.
The Gold Coast will host Eurovision: Australia Decides over two nights in February.

Don’t you mean Asiavision?
It’s had many different names in conversation. Let’s wait until it happens.
Those dates coincide with the 3rd week of Schoolies 2019. It would be the worst possible time to hold an event like that on the Gold Coast
Would not that be AsiaVision, whatever the name it sounds like a right fizzer.
Yeah, Mayor Tate has a habit of making these off handed comments for the publicity.
I’d just say that “Hosting every 4 years” isn’t really how the Eurovision model works; and even if SBS won every 4 years, surely they’d find different host cities each time, like Sweden?
