Industry forum to address childcare

Director Jocelyn Moorhouse to speak at forum on issues faced by parents & carers working in the screen sector.

Director Jocelyn Moorhouse will speak at the Raising Films Australia Screen Industry Forum to address the needs of and issues faced by, parents and carers working in the Australian screen sector.

The forum held by Women in Film and Television Australia, is in response to the Raising Films Australia Screen Industry Survey Report “Honey, I Hid the Kids!: Experiences of parents and carer in the Australian Screen Industry.”

This is the first time the industry has come together on this issue and the discussion and outcomes from the day will inform how the industry reshapes itself to better support parents and carers.

WIFT NSW President and WIFT Australia Board Member Megan Riakos said, “It is vital that we as an industry, work together on these important issues and recognise that no one organisation has all the answers, nor should a singular part of the sector be burdened with solving the issues. This forum will provide space for a long overdue conversation around the challenges and obstacles that parents and carers face and drive strategies to address them.”

The Forum will open with a keynote address by acclaimed Director Jocelyn Moorhouse, ahead of the launch of her book Unconditional Love: A Memoir of Filmmaking and Motherhood. The half day event will also include the lead researchers of the report Prof. Deb Verhoeven (University of Technology Sydney) and Dr Sheree Gregory (Western Sydney University) as well as experts on workplace and industry matters, including Parents at Work. The day will be facilitated by Monica Davidson from Creative Plus Business with additional speakers including experts on childcare supports and industry representatives. The Forum will be live-streamed nationally and satellite events held in Canberra, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria.

Thursday 6 December 12pm-5pm at the Australian Film Television and Radio school in Sydney.
