Matter of Fact to be axed?

Stan Grant's ABC News show is coming to an end but he will remain with ABC.

Stan Grant’s ABC News show Matter of Fact looks set to be axed / rested / put on hiatus, according to The Australian.

Grant departed NITV & Foxtel for ABC two years ago to become Indigenous Affairs Coverage and to host a new Friday night current affairs program, The Link, but it only lasted 8 months.

Matter of Fact launched in January with Grant “talking to smart people about big things.”

Grant joins Griffith University in December as professor of global affairs, but will serve as an indigenous and international affairs analyst at ABC.

Matter of Fact airs 9pm Monday – Thursday on ABC News.

  1. I have always liked Stan Grant…from back on his early days on commercial TV….and I enjoyed The Link…but…so totally could not get into Matter of Fact.

  2. A bit like the failed Tom Ballard experiment – why do some networks think we have endless time to devote to the same sort of content they pump out?

It’s not like many can watch The Drum, ABC News & 7:30 each night (plus dabble in some weekly flagship Current Affairs shows like Four Corners, Q&A, Foreign Correspondent, Dateline or Insiders) and still find time or the appetite for this each night as well.

  3. Am surprised anyone watched this poor replacement for Lateline. Lasted only a few minutes when it first started and have never watched since. I agree with Chuck128, this program belongs on radio and as an audio only pidcast, what a waste of a TV studio. Bring back Lateline instead ABC.

  4. Air time varies state by state according to the accursed daylight saving-it’s also simulcast on ABC news radio, which is more appropriate as it’s a ‘talking heads’ type program with no real visual content-Grant might be better off with a daily segment on ‘7.30’.
