Queen doco outranks reality on a soft Sunday

Ratings: Queen doco tops entertainments shows, Seven News tops the night, trouble for Game of Games.

As summer nears, a 7 year old repeat documentary was the top-ranking entertainment show on a low-performing Sunday.

But perhaps it is indicative that many viewers still prefer something intellectual over reality offerings.

Nine’s Queen: Days of our Lives drew in 691,000 viewers from 8pm ahead of Don’t Stop the Music on 465,000 and Sunday Night‘s 432,000. An SBS doco on Pompeii followed relegating Game of Games to fifth place on just 229,000.

Earlier, ABC News led at 7pm on 705,000 followed by All Together Now with 684,000, 60 Minutes and The Sunday Project.

The final episode of Pine Gap drew 348,000 viewers.

Seven News outranked Nine News as the top drawcard of the night.

Nine network won Sunday with 31.3% then Seven 30.8%, ABC 16.6%, 10 13.7% and SBS 7.6%.

Nine News (815,000) led for Nine then Queen: Days of our Lives (691,000), 60 Minutes (643,000) and The Beatles: Eight Days a Week (289,000).

Seven News was #1 for Seven with 903,000 then All Together Now (684,000), Sunday Night (432,000), and Harry & Meghan: The First Tour (195,000).

ABC News (705,000), Don’t Stop the Music (465,000), Pine Gap (348,000), City in the Sky (145,000) and Australia Remembers: Armistice Day (97,000) comprised ABC’s night.

The Sunday Project (326,000 / 198,000) was best for 10 then NCIS (283,000 / 208,000), 10 News First (254,000), Game of Games (229,000) and Bondi Rescue (152,000).

On SBS it was Pompeii’s Final Hours (240,000), SBS World News (142,000), and The 2000s (125,000 / 107,000).

7mate’s Thor movie scored 188,000 on multichannels.

  1. Game of Games would not be cheap and 10 would have been hoping for 600’s at least and to turn their Sunday night around. Aust Idol and Big Brother Sunday nights seem soooo long ago. !0 is just not on the radar on weekends for so many people. No major sport or local news to encourage people to watch. Would interesting to see Game of Games on a weekday and cut back to 60 mins.

  2. Starting Game Of Games at 7:30 does not help.
God help Takeaway if it’s in the same slot half hour after 7 and 9 start their shows !!
If TEN was a public company there would be questions asked.
They are spending a billion dollars on content apparently and making decisions like this which don’t give a show a chance .

  3. I don’t mind Game Of Games, it’s a bit of fun on a Sunday night, however it’s the over-hyped contestants that I think turn people off. It can be a hard watch sometimes. Grant is great though.

    1. Because they are cashing in on the biggest movie in Australia and the world right now, Bohemian Rhapsody. Nobody knew the movie was going to be a phenomenon so the Tv specials are getting the dividends

  4. I find it astounding (like last year) that networks aren’t interested in showing anything interesting in the final ‘ratings’ weeks of the year. No wonder people are looking elsewhere. We taped ‘Don’t Stop The Music’ and watched ‘Big Little Lies’ on DVD…finally bought it to watch! Even my husband is hooked!

      1. Nice call, what a great show. It’s been a real surprise hit for me, didn’t realise i’d get into as much as I have. Great cast and even better writing.

  5. Didn’t watch Game Of Games for the first time last night. Gets a bit repetitive and boring after a while. Funny how Hot Seat and The Chase air everyday with the same format and don’t appear as repetitive.
