SBS recognised for archival project

5 yr project to digitise SBS archives is recognised by European body for broadcast preservation.

SBS has been recognised for achievement in digital archiving, winning the Excellence in Media Preservation category at the FIAT/IFTA Archive Achievement Awards in Europe.

The Preserving Australian TV History Digitisation Project has digitised over 42,000 videotapes from SBS archives over a five year period.

This digitisation project transformed SBS physical tape collection into a useable digital archive. The content on Betacam, DVCPro, MiniDV and 1” was digitised using Lossless JPEG2000 for preservation, DV50 for the broadcast master and an H.264 proxy.
