Acorn TV streaming in Australia

Newest streaming service specialises in international drama.

Streaming service Acorn TV, which specialises in international drama, has now launched in Australian and New Zealand.

The service,  operated by AMC Networks-owned RLJ Entertainment, launched in the US and Canada in 2011 before rolling out to twelve Latin American countries in 2018, will now be available across

It has also now added Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, India, South Africa, Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Bahamas, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, Antigua, Barbuda and Belize.

Rights deals mean that not every show from the service in the U.S. will be immediately available in every territory.

The service is launching with a raft of UK titles including Doc Martin, Sword of Honour, The Bletchley Circle, The Commander, Above Suspicion, The Secret Agent, Traffik, The Last Enemy, Jack Taylor, plus East West 101 and documentaries including Britain’s Bloodiest Crown and Britain’s Bloodiest Dynasty.

Matthew Graham, SVP and GM for Acorn TV, said, “Acorn TV is doing phenomenally well in North America, so we’re thrilled to continue to take the Acorn TV experience globally with 30 new countries. We are excited for global fans of British and international drama and mystery to discover the wonders of Acorn TV with addictive series featuring stellar acting, beautiful settings, and gripping storylines.”

Consumers can subscribe at acorn.tv and also watch via apps on Apple TV, Android, iPhone, iPads and Roku streaming players.

An Acorn TV membership will cost you $4.99 per month paid monthly or $49.99 paid annually, saving $9.89.

  1. It’s a little short on content for me to get involved, at least when browsing, it’s got about 4 or 5 shows missing from what you mentioned above David, maybe they’ll be getting them in time.

  2. I suspect that fans of British shows will like this service but Acorn TV is up against a fair bit of competition and an abundance of product. Certainly the TV production companies cant whinge too much with all theses streaming companies coming on line. It looks to be an Android streaming product so choose your device carefully.
