Ratings: AFL Grand Final tops the year's metro audiences.

The AFL Grand Final Presentations was the top audience in 2018 at 2,616,000 viewers.
That was down on 2017’s 2,723,ooo, also for the AFL Grand Final.
When calculated on Combined (Metro +Regional) audiences State of Origin I tops the list at 3,445,00 viewers eclipsing the AFL Grand Final’s 3,392,000 -in part because RegionalTAM has stronger penetration in east coast markets.
The Australian Open Men’s Final drew 1,739,000 viewers in summer. The top Commonwealth Games audience was 2,037,000 viewers for the Opening Ceremony during Easter break.
SBS cracked the Top 20 twice thanks to the FIFA World Cup. 10’s top audience was for MasterChef Australia: The Winner Announced at 1,413,000 and ABC’s Spicks & Specks Reunion at 1,113,000.

State of Origin 1 tops the list “in part because RegionalTAM has stronger penetration in east coast markets.” “Stronger Penetration” is code for more and larger regional towns. State of Origin 1 therefore was No.1 with the largest national audience.
I already reported it was #1 with combined audience? Technically, national is not a word OzTAM advises using.
Good that there are still some shows that can pull big numbers…albeit they are all sport or reality.
Have to agree the AFL GF was one if not the best game I ever have seen and not because I am an WCE supporter the game had everything
