US actor best known for F-Troop and Herbie Rides Again, has died.

US actor Ken Berry, best known for F-Troop and Herbie Rides Again, has died aged 85.

His wife actress Jackie Joseph-Lawrence posted on Facebook, “With very deep sorrow,  I must inform friends of Ken Berry that he died a short time ago.”

Berry started out as a singer and dancer. He served in the U.S. Army special services under Sergeant Leonard Nimoy, entertaining the troops.

Berry played Captain Parmenter on F-Troop for just two years in the mid-1960s, but the sitcom enjoyed years more in reruns.

He also appeared as widowed farmer Sam Jones on The Andy Griffith Show and spin-off Mayberry R.F.D. 1968 to 1971 int he lead role.

For Disney there were comedy films Herbie Rides Again and The Cat From Outer Space.

Other credits included Mama’s Family, Dr. Kildare, Wendy and Me, The Golden Girls, Love Boat, Fantasy Island and CHiPs.

Larry Storch wrote on Facebook, “Dear friends. We are sad to let you know our beloved Captain, Mr Ken Berry passed away tonight. We just spoke with Jackie Joseph who confirmed the devastating news. We are at a true loss for words. Ken, we hope you know how much you were loved. Goodnight Captain. We miss you already.”

  1. Did you all forget Mayberry RFD? That was on Channel zero for years. He was also the neighbor in The Brady bunch I think. Yeah. He was one of the all round regular guys. Tbh I was never a fan of F troop. I think because it was on Aunty. And of course Momma was never on in Australia, it stank like yesterday’s diapers but not because of Ken. It’s odd how it all comes flooding back. Vale Ken.
